This series of photographs was captured during the shamal season in the Arabian desert. Shamal means North in Arabic and is a wind that blows through the Persian Gulf region and will only occur on a few set days per year. You can only visualise wind through the movement of objects. In these images the movement of cloud shadows, sand and dust particles can be seen in the form of contrasting tone and lines across the terrain. This movement of sand is called saltation, which can visually alter the landscape, adding a painterly quality due to the movement of millions of sand granules per second
